Kenya: Mara & Beyond

Nairobi Amboseli Tsavo West Masai Mara Nairobi

Kenya's finest safari journeys are defined not by a single reserve, but by the contrast between its great wilderness regions. This route begins beneath Kilimanjaro, continues through the volcanic landscapes and spring-fed valleys of Tsavo West, and concludes on the wildlife-rich plains of the Masai Mara.

Carefully chosen camps and flights between regions keep the experience seamless. The result is a rare journey through three distinct expressions of Kenya, with time protected for wildlife, atmosphere and the pleasure of staying exceptionally well.

How the Journey Unfolds

Day 1

Nairobi: A Quiet Arrival

Selected Stay Hemingways Nairobi or similar

Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your hotel in the city's quieter southern suburbs. The remainder of the day is intentionally unstructured, leaving time to rest before the safari begins.

Days 2–3

Amboseli: Beneath Kilimanjaro

Selected Stay Elewana Tortilis Camp Amboseli or similar

Fly south to Amboseli, where spring-fed wetlands interrupt the open plains beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. Morning and afternoon game drives follow elephant herds between marsh and savannah, while the camp's setting within a private conservancy allows a quieter perspective on one of Kenya's most recognisable landscapes.

Days 4–5

Tsavo West: A Wilder Kenya

Selected Stay Finch Hattons Luxury Camp or similar

Continue into Tsavo West, a vast wilderness shaped by lava flows, wooded hills and natural springs. The scenery feels more elemental here, with fewer vehicles and long stretches of country between encounters. Game drives reveal red-dusted elephant, plains game and predators, while the camp offers a refined retreat beside water regularly visited by wildlife.

The Detail

Tsavo changes the scale of the safari: sightings may be less concentrated, but the sense of space and seclusion is exceptional.

Days 6–7

Masai Mara: A Grand Finale

Selected Stay Elewana Sand River Masai Mara or similar

Fly to the Masai Mara for the final safari chapter. From a camp set beside the Sand River, explore open grasslands and riverine corridors known for lion, cheetah, elephant and abundant plains game. During the migration months, vast herds may move through the wider ecosystem; outside that season, the Mara remains one of East Africa's most rewarding year-round wildlife regions.

Day 8

Nairobi: Journey's End

Fly back to Nairobi for lunch and your onward arrangements. The journey can conclude with an international departure or continue to the Kenyan coast for a slower final chapter beside the Indian Ocean.

Three landscapes, each unmistakably Kenyan, reveal how much lies beyond a single celebrated reserve.
